Koshu is a historic city with lots of Buddhist temples and statues from the medieval Japan, most of which are designated as national treasure. Also, old towns with traditional housings from the Edo period still remain in this city until today. The Koshu Grape is an indigenous species of this region and its cultivation is said to have began more than 1,200 years ago. Koshu is also the oldest and largest wine producing region in Japan, with 130 years of history. This region is also rich in nature and lots of people visit here for trekking or hiking in the places like Mt. Daibosatsu, Mikubo Plateau, Hikawa Valley and Ryumonkyo Gorge.
